Composure

It would appear even the Great Sage understood the plights of the tortured artist.

「人不知而不慍,不亦君子乎」

– 孔子 (Confucius)

It means: “If other people do not understand you (or are not wise), the noble man is not frustrated or upset. That is the sign of composure.”

Seems a bit much to ask, I know; as if you’re asking the world for trouble by aiming that high; I suppose that’s why we call them ideals. Also seems a bit arrogant, as if you alone are virtuous; the wise man of potential; the dignified person of perfect composure.

But I suppose that depends where you’re coming from: is it resentment, jealousy… pride?

Scrutinize yourself very carefully, my fellow readers.
